Kathmandu: The government has decided to recommend Surendra Lal Karna for appointment as the new Chief of Madhesh Province. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on Monday, according to government sources.
This decision follows the dismissal of former Province Chief Sabitra Subedi Bhandari, who faced widespread criticism for her controversial actions earlier in the day.
Bhandari was accused of violating constitutional norms after she administered the oath of office to UML leader Saroj Kumar Yadav as Chief Minister at a hotel in Mahottari on Monday morning. The unusual oath-taking ceremony sparked outrage across Madhesh Province, prompting the federal government to immediately relieve her of her duties.
With Karna’s appointment, the government aims to restore political stability and uphold constitutional procedures in the province following days of turmoil.
